A dust bag is the last piece of packaging a customer keeps. It is handled every time the product is put away, long after the carton and tissue are gone, which makes it a durability specification as much as a presentation one.
Start from the item as it will be stored — packed dimensions with handles folded or heel upright, and whether one bag size has to cover several product variants. Those inputs set the internal size and the drawstring allowance before fabric or logo is chosen.
Stored leather and textile need air exchange. Cotton is the usual specification for this reason; a sealed non-breathable wrap traps humidity against the item.

A handbag stored with its filler in place is wider and deeper than the same bag flat. Decide which state the dust bag has to fit, measure that state, and say so on the enquiry — this is the single most common cause of a dust bag that will not close over the widest point.
Product ranges described in the same size class vary more than the names suggest, and a dust bag sized for the middle of the range strains on the largest item. Send the largest and the smallest so the coverage is specified deliberately, or split it into two sizes.
A mark centred on the flat panel can disappear into the gather once the drawstring is pulled closed. Confirm placement on a drawing of the finished, closed bag rather than on the flat pattern.
